CV LORENZO FANARA, Ambassador of Italy to the United Arab Emirates
Lorenzo Fanara was born on 1st June 1970 in Agrigento, Italy.
He attended ‘Empedocle Liceo Classico’ High School in Agrigento and graduated with honours in Law from the University of Palermo in 1993.
Before embarking on the diplomatic career, he practised as a lawyer.
He began the diplomatic career in 1998. He carried out his first assignments in Rome in the Directorate General for Personnel at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
From 2002 to 2006, he served at the Permanent Representation to the European Union in Brussels.
He was then posted to the Embassy in Moscow (2006-2010), where he worked on economic and trade issues, in particular the energy policy dossier, until 2010.
From 2010 to 2013, he worked as a speechwriter in the Cabinet of Foreign Ministers, namely Franco Frattini, Giulio Terzi di Sant’Agata and Emma Bonino.
From 2013 until the end of 2016, he worked at the Embassy in London as Political Adviser.
From January 2017 to March 2018, he was Deputy Head of Cabinet of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Angelino Alfano.
From March 2018 until October 2022 he was Ambassador of Italy in Tunisia.
He has been Ambassador of Italy to the UAE since October 2022.
He speaks English, French, and Russian.
He is Knight of the Order of Merit of the Republic.
He is married to Sophie and has two children, Igea and Tancredi.
