A message from the Ambassador

My Dear Fellow Italian Citizens,

It is with great enthusiasm and pride that I take over as Head of the Italian Embassy in the United Arab Emirates. This is an extraordinarily dynamic country. I am here to give new impetus to bilateral relations, to cooperate with a country that has overcome several challenges thanks to the far-sighted and wise vision of its leadership, and to implement long-term projects in the name of innovation and sustainability.

I aim to achieve these goals together with the large and qualified community of Italians living in this country. A very active and productive community, which deserves the utmost attention and the best services from the Italian institutions. I would also be grateful to each of you if I could receive proposals, ideas, and prospects for new forms of cooperation. Rest assured all proposals will be examined.

Therefore, my first thought goes to you, who – with your skills and entrepreneurial spirit – witness here to the genius and creativity of Italy, contributing to the prestige and prosperity of our country. I see the promotion of Italian excellence as a top priority in view of the strategic position of this country. In fact, this is the first destination market in the Arab world for our exports, a privileged gateway to the markets of the Middle East, East Africa and South Asia, as well as an international trade and logistics platform.

I am also convinced of the outstanding importance of culture, an indispensable tool for fostering respectful dialogue and knowledge. The Italian Cultural Institute of Abu Dhabi, the only one in the Gulf area, is a major resource for building new bridges of communication and understanding between our millenary cultures. Scientific and technological cooperation is equally important for the challenges ahead of us. I rely heavily on the widespread presence of a community of Italian researchers and academics with few equals in terms of dynamism and professionalism.

Aware of your crucial role in strengthening bilateral relations, I would like to emphasise that the Embassy, the Consulate General in Dubai, the Italian Cultural Institute, the ITA and SACE offices, in other words the Italian system in all its expressions, are at your service and at the service of Italian businesses. Together, I am sure, we can achieve important successes and consolidate the cooperation and friendship between Italy and the United Arab Emirates.

Good luck with your work and see you soon,

Lorenzo Fanara
